 "Had I not sought
and received help
from Hyndburn
Enterprise Trust,
I would not have
survived the
first 12 months,"
says Lee Mannering,
director of
Chroma Video

Lee Mannering was a film maker for around 30 years before setting up his Accrington-based production company Chroma Video Productions in 2003. Lee's career started with professional acting work - you might spot him in feature films like Bugsy Malone - before he went into production work, subsequently winning several film awards including a coveted Master Membership of the Institute of Videography.

Making the jump to his own production business wasn't easy, but Lee says he had two avenues of help from the outset. The first, importantly, was his wife, who was a great support all the way; the second was the local Enterprise Trust in Accrington. Lee tells how he was fortunate enough to stumble into - not literally! - the Hyndburn Enterprise Trust's office before even considering starting a business. Lee says that after being greeted by friendly staff who made him feel at ease straight away, he booked onto an introduction course, followed by a series of training days covering all aspects of starting and running a business. Had he not sought and received that help, he says he would not have survived the first 12 months!

But the company did survive. And Chroma Video Productions has become a highly successful video production company. It offers an extensive range of services, including corporate video production, DVD authoring and duplication, video transfer services, video production for the internet, video encoding, and even the use of a BBC voice over artist.

Lee offers this advice to those thinking of starting a business: Don't rush into things - seek out your local Enterprise Trust and gain vital free knowledge. Knowledge, after all, is power.
